What Size Pallet Do I Need? A Complete Guide

GMA 48x40, 44x44, custom — how to choose the right pallet size for your operation and supply chain.

Buyer's Guide

The GMA Standard: 48″×40″

The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) standard pallet — 48 inches long by 40 inches wide — is the most common pallet size in North America. It fits standard pallet rack, standard truck trailers, and most warehouse equipment. If you don't have a specific reason to use a different size, this is the right choice.

Other Common Sizes

  • 44″×44″ — Used for drums, chemical containers, and cylindrical products.
  • 48″×48″ — Used in paper, paint, and some chemical applications.
  • 42″×42″ — Telecommunications and beverage industry standard.
  • 48″×45″ — Automotive industry standard for parts suppliers.

How to Choose

  • Match your pallet size to your rack system first
  • Consider your customer's requirements for retail or distribution centers
  • For export, check your destination country's standard pallet size
  • Choose a size that optimizes your truck trailer width
