Complete guide to ISPM-15 heat-treated pallets for businesses shipping goods internationally from Nevada.

Export Compliance

What Is ISPM-15?

ISPM-15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15) is an international guideline for treating wood packaging materials to prevent the global spread of invasive insects and plant diseases. It was developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) and has been adopted by most countries that engage in international trade.

The IPPC Mark

Pallets that comply with ISPM-15 must bear the IPPC mark — a wheat symbol with the country code (US for the United States), the producer/treatment provider registration number, and the treatment code (HT for heat treatment or MB for methyl bromide, though MB is being phased out globally).

Who Needs ISPM-15 Pallets?

  • Any exporter shipping goods on wood pallets to countries that have adopted ISPM-15
  • Most major trading countries have adopted the standard: EU, Canada, Mexico, China, Japan, Australia, and many more
  • Domestic US shipments generally do not require ISPM-15 compliance
